First staged in 1995, the German Masters is a professional ranking snooker tournament. Like many of the snooker tournaments, this event was subjected to the changes regarding its name, status, and venues.
First known as German Open, the tournament was a ranked event in its first three years which was held in Frankfurt.
Later on, it became a non-ranking tournament ultimately the event was brought to a halt. In 2010/2011 season, the event made its return as a ranking tournament and is held in Tempodrom Berlin since.
The event follows the format of the main draw of 32 players who compete for a place in the next round of last 16 and out of which 8 reaches the quarters.
The games are played over the best of 9 frames in the first three rounds. The semi-finals and final are played over best of 9 frames and best of 11 frames, respectively.
Over the course of time, the tournament has been won by different professionals out of which Ronnie O' Sullivan and John Higgins both managed to win it twice.
The 2022 Bildbet German Masters will run from January 26 to 30 at the famous Tempodrom venue in Berlin.
Judd Trump won the 2021 Bildbet German Masters with a 9-2 thrashing of Jack Lisowski in the final, becoming the first player to win the title in consecutive years.
