First inaugurated in 1981, the Scottish Open has seen its fair share of changes throughout its history from having former names such as Matchroom Trophy, International Open and Players Championship.
Apart from the starting years, it was a ranking tournament until 2004. It was then added to the minor-ranking event in 2014 and in 2016 it got its place in the main tour with the likes of English Open, Welsh Open, and others.
The tournament has been won by many professionals over the years but the Scottish Open found its most profuse winner in Steve Davis, who won it for 6 times out of 8. Only two Scots have been successful in winning this title namely Stephen Hendry, having won it 3 times and John Higgins who has 2 Scottish Open titles to his name.
