The Players Championship is a ranking tournament of snooker. The tournament started in 2011 and has been held in different venues over the years.
Firstly named as the Players Tour Championship Finals, its first edition was held in Dublin with the latest being staged in Preston, England. In 2016/17, it was changed to the Players Championship.
The qualifying criteria of the tournament have also been subjected to change a couple of times. The tournament used to accommodate 24 players in the first edition which was then expanded to 32 players.
The current edition saw the event is opened to the top 16 players on the basis of the one-year ranking list. First round is a knockout round of last 16 which then moves to the quarter-finals and then, the semi-finals. All of these matches are played over best of 11 frames.
The final of the event is played over the best of 19 frames.
