One of the most prestigious and historic snooker tournament, the UK Championship is otherwise known as Betway UK Championship is only second to the World Championship as a ranking event. These two tournaments are part of Triple Crown otherwise called the snooker’s big three, the third one being the Masters.
The first UK Championship was staged in 1977 in Blackpool which was only open to British residents and nationality holders.
Later, the format was changed and the professionals from around the globe were allowed to compete. The UK Championship is held at Barbican Centre in York, England since 2011. This event manages to pull off large crowds due to its fierce competitive nature, the memorable finals, and the higher stakes.
The UK championship has one of the highest prize pool. Ronnie O' Sullivan winning it for seven times taking over the record of the legendary Steve Davis who won it six times. While Stephen Hendry is on third, having won the tournament fives times.
